Apple approved WeChat Pay as a payment method

Recently Apple has accepted Wechat Pay as a payment method in App store and iTunes. Before that it accepted Alibaba’s Ali pay method system.

A source named ChinaMoneyNetwork quoted,

We are glad to offer users in mainland China the option of WeChat Pay for their favorite mobile app or iTunes. We continue to be dedicated to provide multiple simple and convenient payment methods for customers within the Apple ecosystem,” Apple said in an official statement today.

In a recent survey, Alibaba’s alipay had a 53.7% market share in China and WeChat pay had 39.51% market share. But Apple pay was out of the equation. It had 1% market share only.

It means they might have given up its hope on its own paying method as it fails to make inroads in China.

The CEO of Apple Tim Cook recently said,

“I see Tencent as one of our biggest and best developers,” said Cook, speaking on a conference call in early August. “They’ve done a great job of implementing iOS features in their apps, and we’re looking forward to working with them even more to build even greater experiences for our mutual users in China.”

It seems The CEO Tim Cook is quite happy with WeChat’s work.
